The short version: I'm 28, I live in Overland Park, KS and I'm currently working for a small business in Olathe, KS, where I develop and maintain two websites. I am also undertaking the arduous task of growing a freelance photo business by myself, and planning on entering paramedic school sometime in the very near future. I live with my girlfriend Jana, who manages to somehow keep me organized, and my newborn son, Brooks. I am currently between departments at the moment, but plan to find employment as a full-time firefighter/EMT as soon as possible.
The long version: I am a product of southwest Kansas, where there's nothing but yucca plants and beef packing plants (the latter of which is not indigenous to the area), and the groundwater is more of a commodity than the natural gas. I was exposed to many of my favorite things from a very young age--auto racing, computers, electronics, drums, music, mechanics, things like that. I've always had an intrinsic interest in things that are spacially and visually oriented, and I just like to take things apart. When I was younger, I had an "obsession" with wanting to see peoples' furnaces and/or pipes. Honestly, I couldn't really care now, but plumbing used to fascinate me as a kid. I've since grown up to include many other interests in my life, including photography, bowling, medicine, politics, rock climbing, biking, and even social interaction (but only in limited doses when it's safe for others to be around me). I have too many hobbies, and most of them are expensive.
About this Website
This website is intended mostly for my family and friends, and those who just happen to wander the web looking for the most random of random things (or people who want to find out who I am beyond my Facebook profile). It's the product of a handful of various needs, ranging from requisite hosting space for my ever-growing photography archives and the desire to display that photography, to the need to host a website for a show that never happened.
The title comes from an old scenario concept I used to have back in the days of Age of Empires, when online games were basic, violent, and generally pretty entertaining. The maps were cheesy, badly laid out, and easy to manipulate in a scenario editor to the point of giving any one person (or the entire group) ridiculous amounts of resources and/or tactical advantages, to the point that it simply became a free-for-all: kill or be killed. Hence the name.
While I grew up in the "dark ages" of HTML (as Jasso would put it), I've since updated myself to the ways of CSS and XHTML, and now PHP/SQL. This originally started out as something for me to post my random musings in a space where they would be organized, but the lack of any real data management pretty much drilled that into the ground. Roughly two years later, I finally managed to venture out into the unknown wilderness of server-side scripting, and have now developed an effective (but shoddy) content management system, which is implemented here and on a few other websites. And this is where it becomes my guinea pig.
Enjoy.
